The 15 Best Ice Creams in Perth That Are Impossible to Resist!

Whenever Perth turns into a furnace, the options for cooling off are endless. Some folks crank up the air conditioner until it’s basically a fridge inside, while others take the plunge at the beach or hit the pool for a cooling dip.

Our team keeps it simple and sweet. When the mercury rises, we go to the city’s ice cream shops, specifically those with top-shelf and unique scoops.

If you’re looking to follow our lead, our favourites below are where you’ll want to begin.

Pietro Gelateria

From pietrogelateria

Address: The Park Centre, 789 Albany Hwy, East Victoria Park

Contact Details: +61 410 255 693

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 10 am to 10 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 10 am to 10:30 am
  • Sun – 10 am to 10 pm

Website

Playing safe isn’t part of Pietro Gelateria’s philosophy. Their monthly rotating flavours keep things wild, like the savoury mint gelato we gave a whirl—think creamy meets herby and earthy.

Don’t skip if adventurous scoops aren’t your thing though, as they still dish out classics that’d make Italian gelaterias proud. Crowd-pleasers like Earl Grey and salted caramel are spot on, and like everything here, they’re free of dodgy preservatives.

Tip: The online shop usually has deals and discounts. Browse and snag a bargain while you’re at it!

Kuld Creamery

From kuld_creamery

Address: 8/10 Roe St, Northbridge

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 11 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 11 am to 12 pm
  • Sun – 11 am to 10 pm

Website

Kuld Creamery always keeps us on our toes with their ever-changing flavours. Last time, we went green with their earthy matcha ice cream, taken up a notch by the bittersweet crunch of dark choc chips.

Just remember, you won’t know what’s on unless you hit them up on the gram or give them a bell. It could be beetroot sorbet one month, or almond poppyseed the next; what’s a given is that you’ll be treated to quality flavours, made with the freshest WA produce.

Tip: You must place all orders by Monday at 1 pm for delivery within the same week.

Whisk Creamery

From whiskcreamery

Address: 246 William St, Northbridge

Contact Details: +61 8 9227 7041

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 12 pm to 11:30 pm
  • Sun – 12 pm to 10:30 pm

Website

Chances are Whisk Creamery has already taken over your feed. Whether it’s their famous taiyaki or loaded ice cream sandwiches, this famous shop has mastered making scoops that look and taste phenomenal.

Each month, they drop a fresh batch of six flavours, but some classics always stick around. Take the Mermaid, for example—vanilla gelato covered with sprinkles and crowned with those glorious flamed marshmallows.

Tip: Don’t forget to check what promotions are on offer.

Gusto Gelato

From gustogelatoau

Address: Elizabeth Quay, 5 Geoffrey Bolton Av,

Contact Details: +61 468 723 512

Operating Hours: Daily – 11 am to 10 pm

Website

The mastermind behind Gusto Gelato did their time at a gelato uni in Bologna, and if that doesn’t hint at this shop’s expertise, we’re not sure what does. In fact, they stay true to tradition, which is perfect for stans of authentic Italian gelato.

Honestly, we have their caramelised white chocolate on the brain 24/7. It pops with velvety undertones and a toasty finish that lingers.

Get Chunky

From get.chunky

Address: 7/81-83 Walcott St, Mount Lawley

Operating Hours: Daily – 10 am to 9:30 pm

Website

While Get Chunky’s cookies get the glory, no one will throw a fit if you’re there for their ice cream sandwiches.

For just $7.50 to $8, you’ll snag an oven-baked cookie, two scoops of ice cream, and three toppings. Easy, you think? Nah, with over 12 cookie and ice cream flavours, like Nutella and mint choc, you’ll have a hard time deciding what the creamy sanga will be.

Tip: Download and use their loyalty apps from Google Play or App Store to score points.

The Milk Barrel

From themilkbarrel

Address: Sorrento Quay, 28 Southside Dr, Hillarys

Operating Hours: Daily – 10 am to 9 pm

Facebook

The Milk Barrel didn’t grab those Perth Royal Show awards for no reason. Made the old-school Italian way, their gelato batches are simple but pure class, with over 16 flavours catering to most dessert lovers—even the vegan crowd.

You can’t go wrong with staples like the toasty Sicilian pistachio or crisp Ferrero Rocher, both best-sellers. Durian ice cream might be a better pick though. Its exotic custard-ish notes won this shop a couple of laurels, after all.

Tip: Flavour updates are all posted on Facebook. Give them a like to stay in the loop.

Fry’d

From fomofreo

Address: Leederville Village, 138b Oxford St, Leederville

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 7:30 am to 10 pm
  • Sat – 11:30 am to 10:30 pm
  • Sun – 11:30 am to 10 pm

Facebook

We have Fry’d on the brain, and honestly, no regrets. Saying no to their deep-fried ice cream in a crunchy shell should count as madness.

Our most reliable pick is caramel, with its butter and coffee touches playing with the molten sugar overtones. But when we’re feeling bonkers, we go for the wilder sticky date pudding, bursting with toffee and warm spice essences.

Tip: Choices change every month. View the latest list on the website.

Stampede Gelato Fremantle

From stampede_gelato

Address: The Sunshine Harvester Works, 1/1 James St, Fremantle

Operating Hours:

  • Wed to Thu – 5:30 pm to 9 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 5 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Sun – 5 pm to 9 pm

Website

Calling Stampede Gelato ‘inventive’ is an understatement. Each handmade and premium batch here flexes flavours you’ll hardly find in other ice cream joints.

Case in point: Vegemite white chocolate, turning the polarising Aussie salty spread into a creamy, chocolatey dessert. If that’s not enough to tempt you, they also make stuff like sour red skittle and Tim Tam, iconic bites reimagined as silky gelato.

Tip: Follow their Instagram to learn about their latest discounts and specials.

Cuccini Gelato

From cuccinigelato

Address: 276 William St, Perth

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 10 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 12 pm to 11 pm
  • Sun – 12 pm to 10 pm

Website

Cuccini Gelato and queues are synonymous at this point, and it’s not just this place’s minimalist look that pulls crowds. Their traditional and extraordinary flavours contribute, too.

For the classics, you can’t go wrong with their chocolate, pistachio, and mango, crafted as the Italians intended. On the other side of the spectrum, you get innovative scoops, including zingy cucumber mint and half-sweet, half-earthy red bean.

Billy van Creamy

From billyvancreamy

Operating Hours: Daily – 10 am to 10 pm

Website

Billy van Creamy is the one if you’re after ice cream free of emulsifiers and artificial nonsense. They’re also a must-visit if you’re keen on no-frills scoops like chocolate or espresso.

This Melbourne-staple-turned-Perth-favourite has a noteworthy vegan range as well. The list is extensive, featuring cruelty-flavours like choc-mint and cashew milk.

Tip: They can serve events like festivals and weddings. Contact them for the deets.

Cold Rock

Address: 10 11/148 The Esplanade, Scarborough

Contact Details: +61 452 553 579

Operating Hours: Tue to Sun – 11 am to 9 pm

Website

No ice cream list is worth its salt without Cold Rock. If you’ve ever spent a scorching Perth summer in one of their stores, you’ve probably tried their ’create-your-own’ ice cream magic, which probably ended in a trip to the dentist or stomachache.

Flavour-wise, their quintessential bubble gum is a given. It’s bright and an absolutely nostalgia-inducer. Close behind is the Aussie vanilla, which is probably richer than most vanilla ice creams you’ve had.

Tip: The store gets busy, so we won’t blame you if you just order online.

Messina Gelato

From gelatomessina

Address: 497 Beaufort St, Highgate

Contact Details: +61 485 982 380

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 12 pm to 11 pm
  • Sun – 12 pm to 10:30 pm

Website

Deciding on a flavour at Messina Gelato is no easy feat; they have 40 choices! 35 are the old-school classics like chocolate and coffee, while the rest are rotating specials, plus a Perth-only Rotto bun option, which is essentially cream bun gelato.

Regarding our top pick, it’s their dulce de leche, and we’re not alone on this one. They brilliantly infused this flavour with rich Argentinian milk, so you can expect next-level lusciousness thanks to low-heat caramelisation.

Tip: You can take the experience up a notch by popping in during an event.

From gelareaustralia

Address: Westfield Carousel, Shop 2002/1382 Albany Hwy, Cannington

Contact Details: +61 8 9358 4388

Operating Hours:

  • Mon – 9 am to 8 pm
  • Tue to Sun – 9:30 am to 8:30 pm

Website

Gourmet sundaes at Geláre Carousel will beat both the heat and the daily grind with a single scoop.

Now, the real debate is whether to go for the hot fudge or the hot fudge basket. The hot fudge is classic: creamy ice cream topped with gooey fudge. The latter brings the same features but with a crispy waffle basket edge.

Tip: If you’re on the hunt for a fresh investment, this shop’s food trucks are worth a look.

Roho

From rohoicecream

Serviced Area: Perth

Website

Plant-based ice cream hit a whole new level of mouthwatering when Roho came on the scene. These virtuosos have cracked the code for dairy- and gluten-free scoops that taste like the real deal.

Take their salted caramel, for example; it still has that rich, buttery flavour with a delish sweet-and-salty contrast. Even the lighter coconut vanilla is as good as the OGs, oozing with ‘milky’ notes and a fruitier punch courtesy of raspberry dust.

Tip: Don’t just stop at the ice cream; grab some of their merch while you’re at it!

Chicho Gelato

From chichogelato

Address: Perth Cultural Centre, 180 William St, Northbridge

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 12 pm to 10 pm
  • Fri – 12 pm to 11 pm
  • Sat – 11 am to 11 pm
  • Sun – 11 am to 10 pm

Website

Chico Gelato’s on-site creations are a full-blown feast for your taste buds and stomach. Don’t believe us? Try their gingerbread sandwich with custard gelato and thank us later.

Beyond that, they have one-of-a-kind flavours too, like the famed matcha green tea malted milk cornflake cookie. The most talked about offering though is undoubtedly the buttery and floral lavender and honeycomb gelato.

Tip: Seasonal specials don’t last long here. See what’s on and get them before time runs out.
