Top 5 Abortion Clinics in Perth

Top 5 Abortion Clinics in Perth

How We Picked Perth’s Reliable Abortion Centers

Legitimacy

Some clinics disguise themselves as abortion clinics without having the proper documentation. We made sure to choose legitimate abortion clinics to keep you safe.

Safety

The abortions conducted must be safe and keep you at minimal risk. We chose clinics with a good reputation for upholding the safety of the patients who enter their clinic.

Staff Attitude

Abortions can be a sensitive matter, so we made sure to choose clinics whose staff are understanding and nonjudgmental about your decision.

Patient Care

Overall patient care is important through and after the procedure, but we also chose clinics that highly respect the privacy of their patients.

Pros

  • Respectful of your privacy
  • Has access to counselling services
  • Reasonable prices
  • Compassionate and understanding staff
  • Free aftercare

Cons

  • Private clinic means you’ll have to pay for the services
  • Appointments may run late

Nanyara Clinic is the first private fertility clinic in Western Australia. They first opened in 1973 and have continued to give safe and accessible abortions for women.

In their almost 50 years of existence, Nanyara Clinic stands by their ideals to respect each woman’s decision regarding her body and pregnancy, providing adequate support along the way.

If you’re unsure of your decision, you can call them over the phone, and a nurse will listen to you as you express your emotions and help you with the decision-making process.

You won’t be pressured to do anything you aren’t comfortable with, and the staff remains respectful of every decision you make along the way.

Terminating a pregnancy is a sensitive matter, and you may need more time during your visit to prepare and be ready for the procedure. Their staff is understanding, but this may mean appointments may run late due to the time a patient can take up.

You may end up waiting for half an hour to an hour before your appointment, but once it’s your turn, rest assured you won’t be rushed or pressured.

As we’ve mentioned, they are a private clinic, which means you’ll have to pay for the services yourself. From our research, however, we found their prices to be reasonable and accessible for most.

Pros

  • Offers free counselling appointments
  • Quick to set appointments for terminations
  • Kind staff
  • Reasonable prices
  • Inclusive of LGBTQ+ and persons with disabilities

Cons

  • Must pay privately
  • No surgical abortion

Sexual Health Quarters, or SHQ for short, is an independent nonprofit organisation that provides services for sexual health and relationship wellbeing.

Other than termination options, they also have STI testing and cervical cancer screening, give prescriptions for contraceptives, and deliver pre-exposure prophylaxis and counselling services.

Counselling services for unwanted or unintended pregnancies are free of charge. All of their counsellors are qualified and nonjudgmental and aim to give you a safe space for you to air out your thoughts and worries.

They offer both pre and post-termination counselling, especially given how they understand that your thoughts and feelings may be difficult and complicated before, during, and after the procedure.

They are a nonprofit, which means you will have to foot the bill for the services you acquire. The cost of an abortion will vary depending on your location, the stage of your pregnancy, and your insurance status.

They only offer medical abortions, and if you’re in need of surgical abortion, they will give you a referral to someone who can conduct the procedure safely.

Due to the nature of the situation, women who require terminations are given priority when it comes to appointments. You may be scheduled on the same day you’re calling, but appointments for terminations are always scheduled within 48 hours.

Pros

  • Offers counselling services
  • Wide range of services
  • Caring and supportive staff
  • Inclusive clinic

Cons

  • Incomplete information online about terminations
  • No surgical abortion
  • Must pay privately

The Fremantle Women’s Health Centre or FWHC offers a wide range of services dedicated to women’s health. All of their services are provided by women doctors, which we know is an important factor to many when it comes to comfort.

FWHC is a nonprofit, community health organisation, which means you will have to pay for their services. However, they do accept Medicare and other private insurance plans to keep your out-of-pocket costs at a minimum.

They offer counselling services for different kinds of issues such as anxiety and depression, support for unwanted or unintended pregnancies, and trauma.

We like how the fees for their counselling services are on a sliding scale, which means your fees will depend on your level of income. You can also negotiate your fees or ask for them to be waived should you need them.

You can browse their website to get more information about the services they offer, but information about abortions is incomplete. This may be due to its sensitive nature, and they encourage you to call them about it instead.

All pertinent information you may need about abortion must be enquired through the phone, and fortunately, they’re highly responsive when it comes to picking up calls.

They also don’t offer surgical abortions, but you can still have a consultation with one of their doctors to determine the kind of termination you will need.

Pros

  • Kind nurses
  • Affordable services
  • Offers telehealth options
  • Has mixed billing practice

Cons

  • Some complaints on doctor’s approach
  • Doesn’t specialise in terminations
  • No counselling services

Athena Women’s Clinic has been open for over 35 years and has served women’s needs since. They have a wide range of services when it comes to women’s health, including those outside of terminations and pregnancy care.

They only accept patients by appointment, but you don’t need a referral to visit their clinic.

They also have telehealth options, and while their website offers an option to book an appointment online, we suggest that you call them directly to secure your slot.

You will have to pay privately for their services, but they have a mixed billing practice to keep your out-of-pocket costs at a minimum. You can also call them directly to enquire about the possible costs.

Patients have commended their nurses and staff, calling them kind and understanding, but feedback about their doctors has been inconsistent.

A few have complained that some of their doctors are dismissive and weren’t considerate of the patients’ feelings.

While being a women’s health clinic, they mostly specialise in pregnancy care and other services. They do offer medical abortions, but their services aren’t centred around this.

This means they don’t have counselling services for those who are struggling with their decision or those who will need additional emotional support.

Pros

  • Has 24/7 aftercare
  • Can get cost estimates online
  • Offers telehealth and tele-abortion options
  • Kind and understanding medical staff

Cons

  • Complaints about reception staff
  • Can be difficult to set an appointment

MSI Australia, formerly known as Marie Stropes, strives to offer safe abortions, vasectomies, and contraceptive options.

They offer services at reduced costs, and free services are also available on a needs basis. However, you can get a cost estimate for abortions and vasectomies through their website.

You will have to input the first day of your last menstrual period, and it will present cost estimates for tele-abortion, an in-clinic medical abortion, and surgical abortion.

We appreciate how they offer tele-abortion, which is where you’ll have an online consultation with one of their doctors and the abortion medication will be sent to you via courier.

Tele-abortion is the most cost-efficient option they have available, and the whole process is both safe and private. They also have 24/7 aftercare for those who have just had abortions, regardless of which method you picked.

Their medical staff is competent and compassionate regarding your concerns, whether it is about terminating a pregnancy or otherwise.

However, the most common complaint we heard about them is regarding their reception staff, which many claim to be rude and inefficient.

This has led to some difficulties when it comes to booking appointments, with some being left on hold for more than an hour.

There were also some who complained that they got no calls back, which led them to look for another clinic instead.
