The city life is all well and good, but sometimes you have to trade honking cars for mooing cows. That’s why we sometimes leg it to an animal farm. The slices of fresh countryside and kid-friendly animal experiences are too pure to pass up.
The grown-ups get to breathe too because, honestly, there’s something therapeutic about watching goats or chickens go about their day. Plus, most stops offer farm-to-table feeds, and we all know fresh food makes life better.
If that sounds exactly like your jam, we’ve handpicked the animal farms near Perth that gave us a genuine dose of rural critters and life.

Smack dab in Western Australia’s oldest wine region, Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm threw our small and ‘big kids’ into the midst of Aussie country life.
Our arvo was spent having a picnic under the shade, with a BBQ to boot. Exploring the greenery was also made breezy by the free tractor and train rides.
Naturally, critters nabbed the limelight, particularly Toffy the llama, Gypsy the pig, and Cracker Jack the miniature horse!
Tip: Help your little ones make new friends by joining the farm’s playgroups.

Hanging out with alpacas, donkeys, and sheep is a normal Tuesday at Caversham Wildlife Park, home to native Australian animals. The best part is it’s only about a 30-minute cruise from the CBD.
Farm shows are also big here. We saw dogs mustering herds and bottle-fed lambs, and we even milked a cow with our own hands!
Beyond that, we bumped into unexpected critters like koalas and penguins!
Tip: Experience the park best by hopping on a group tour.
Landsdale Farm
From landsdalefarm

Operating Hours: Daily – 8:30 am to 3 pm
Distance from the Perth CBD: 27 mins (19.2 km)
Website
Landsdale Farm turned our kiddos into farm life and animal buffs. Can’t say we’re surprised, as this pocket of Darch rurality prioritises personal interaction—think feeding donkeys and having a picnic among ducks.
Quite scenic as well, this place. Past the leafy views, there’s a beautiful pond by the gardens where you can rest after cuddling pigs and riding carts.
Tip: You can host a party here. Kids will love the shady playground area.
S&R Orchard Perth
From srorchard
Address: 36 Halleendale Rd, Walliston
Contact Details: +61 417 917 773
Distance from the Perth CBD: 34 mins (29.2 km)
Website
S&R Orchard is hands down one of the most postcard-worthy animal farms near Perth. You’ll get us once you visit when cherry blossoms are in bloom, or when autumn’s fiery colours sprawl across its picnic grounds.
The prices are darn banging too. Five bucks for kiddos and a tenner for adults gets you a day of countryside action, like feeding goats and alpacas before riding tractors or tumbling on a bouncy castle.
Pop by mid to late September, and you’ll even get to board a Ferris wheel after savouring bites from food trucks.
Tip: Bring your pups; the orchard is pet-friendly!
Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary
From happyhoovesfarmsanctuary
Address: 405 Clenton Rd, Gidgegannup
Contact Details: +61 439 976 921
Distance from the Perth CBD: 54 mins (54 km)
Website
It’s impossible not to feel your heart tug at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. After all, this spot is a haven for farm animals facing slaughter or euthanasia.
Taking the 2-km (1 hr to 1.5 hrs) tour is your best chance of meeting and taking selfies with the rescued goats, pigs, and ponies. If they’re up for it, you might even get a bit of petting action.
The tour is often capped off with light sips and grub, though we’d still advise going full before the walk. You may bring snacks too, as long as they’re vegan.
Tip: Wear closed-toe shoes or strong footwear and weather-appropriate threads.
Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary
From possumvalleyanimalsanctuary
Address: 210 Kingston Rd, Mount Helena
Distance from the Perth CBD: 48 mins (46 km)
Website
More than 300 rescued animals have found a home at the 12.5-hectare Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary. Among the Marri and Jarrah woodlands, they cruise around, well-fed, rehabilitated, and looked after while they wait for a new home.
Visitors can interact with them via a tour, but the yoga sessions are what most folks go for. Doing poses with goats and lambs around is hard to skip, especially since you’re free to pause and play with the animals.
Tip: You can purchase animal sponsorships and clothing from their shop.
Keller’s Farm
Fromkellersfarmswanvalley

Contact Details: +61 448 972 477
Operating Hours: Sat to Sun – 8 am to 4 pm
Distance from the Perth CBD: 29 mins (17.9 km)
A day at Kellers Farm means picking up fresh produce and meeting friendly animals. Just prepare to roll up your sleeves, as this is an actual working farm; the chooks, cows, goats, and sheep are raised for agricultural purposes.
There’s also a store selling homemade pastries or dried fruits. If you just want a reset, though, there’s a colourful seating area outdoors where trees mellow out the sun.
Tip: The vegetables or fruits you can buy here are seasonal. Call to confirm what’s being sold.

Farm stays sort our minds out, and Orchard Glory is among our favourites. Chittering Valley’s hilly landscape frames this rural escape, with a lake as the centrepiece.
You get to play zookeeper and feed animals as well. Goats, sheep, horses, and chickens are the regulars.
You can also load up on farm-fresh fruit like mandarins or oranges right after. It’s an orchard, after all.
Tip: Email [email protected] or ring them up to throw a private event.

Contact Details: Wed to Sun – 7:30 am to 3 pm
Distance from the Perth CBD: 28 mins (28.9 km)
Website
11 Acre Farm has no shortage of animals, roughly 300, in fact. All of them—the peacocks, bees, quails, and bunnies—keep this permaculture hub ticking, so your kiddos will pick up countryside smarts just by standing near the menagerie.
They can also roleplay by heading to Cubby Lane, which would make your regular playgrounds seem meh. The play zone is like a little town, featuring a cafe, salon, and even disco!
Tip: If watching animals doesn’t suffice, educate the kiddos about farm life by making them participate in the workshops.

Website
Ranger Red’s Zoo & Conservation Park isn’t a run-of-the-mill zoo where you just stare at critters wandering about. Here, you’re part of the wild action.
For example, our little ones became zookeepers. They bottle-fed llamas, sheep, and goats—with the braver ones even asking to hold a 2.5-metre olive python. And yup, their wish was granted!
Tip: You can stay overnight via their camping experience.

Ferguson Farmstay gave us the best of both worlds. Their self-contained chalets provided us with ocean and Bunbury vistas, while the outdoors had animals galore.
One side was all ducks, pigs, and emus; the other had ducks and kangaroos kicking about. The cherry on top was feeding them apples or spinach right after collecting our brekkie eggs!
Tip: Late check-out and check-in are allowed, though you must pay $50 for both.
Harvey Farm Barn

When summer rolls around, chances are high that you’ll see us at Harvey Farm Barn. It all comes down to one simple thing, honestly—sunflowers and animals.
Our mornings here are often reserved for self-guided ambles through their Instagrammable sunflower maze. Post-stroll, we make a beeline to the grazing area to feed highland cattle, ponies, and lambs.
Picnics are part of the $11 to $17 deal too. There’s a grassy patch outside the cafe, shaded and well-kept.
Tip: No need to bring picnic rugs. They have several here for free.

Spread across 14 acres of natural bush, Cohunu Koala Park is a proper home for Australian fauna. Obviously, koalas are the main attractions, with wildlife buffs making the trip to cuddle them.
That said, there are also farm animals around, such as pigs, donkeys, and deer. You can feed them, but the park’s nibbles can be pricey, so BYO if you have some.
Tip: Call the number above if you’re rolling with the gang. Groups are required to book.

If you fancy crashing in a 20th-century cottage and waking up to the sound of chickens or goats, Settlers Rest Farmstay is an easy choice.
Mornings here start early with guests collecting eggs for brekkie. By afternoon, you can watch the caretakers lead horses for a graze or wander, right before they’re stabled for the night.
The best part is you can feed the goats, guinea pigs, cows, and chickens whenever you like. Scraps like bread and apples are their preferred chow, so pack some, or save your leftovers!

The yesteryear’s nostalgia and the countryside’s quiet life meet at Bickley Valley Cottage. Guests sleep in a 3-bedroom heritage cottage, with idyllic hills outdoors.
As for the animals, expect a little bit of farm, a little bit of bush. We’re talking about chickens and ducks mixed up with black cockatoos, skinks, and kookaburras.
Emus can be spotted as well, though they’re part of the ‘occasional bunch.’
