The Best Cottages to Crash in Perth if You Want a Break from the City’s Chaos
When it comes to getaways that ditch city lights for starry nights, Perth’s cottages are just the ticket.
Such escapes require careful planning and selection, though. Ending up in a crash pad that’s a gust away from becoming firewood doesn’t sound dreamy.
Lucky for you, we know the finest cottages where even the hustle takes a breather. We’re talking about spots in idyllic farms, sun-dappled forests, and more—all detailed below.

Peering over a pastureland, the self-contained Hillborne Cottage gave us a cozy slice of the countryside.
Inside, there’s a queen bed in the master bedroom and two king singles in the second, making the cottage a great choice for families or groups.
We also love that it boasts modern conveniences, like a TV, reverse cycle air-conditioning, speakers, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
There’s even a spacious veranda, complete with a BBQ. Grilling a storm here was stress-relieving, especially with the valley views and shady gum trees around.
We hit up the nearby Railway Reserves Heritage trail, where wildlife and nature thrive.
This paradise comes with a price, though. It’s 500 bucks per head for a minimum 2-night stay. There are cheaper options for penny-pinchers.
Furthermore, the journey to this cottage took us almost an hour, making it this roundup’s most distant retreat from Perth.
Pros
- Cozy countryside
- Family-friendly
- Modern amenities
- Spacious veranda
- Scenic views
- Near a trail
- Pet-friendly
Cons
- Pricey
- Far from Perth

Hospitable and Helpful
“We absolutely loved everything about the cottage and the farm. We had an amazing little family getaway at Hillborne! The cottage was perfect, as were the views. Melissa and Greg were so friendly, hospitable and helpful. Our two boys loved meeting the horses and chickens and playing fetch with Marley.. and getting a motor bike ride around the paddocks was the cherry on top! I can’t recommend it highly enough, we will be back for sure.”

Old-world splendor matched with lux, modern comforts make the 1800-built Bickley Valley Cottage one of Perth’s most sought-after destinations—if you’re fine with the whopping $350 nightly fee (for 2 people).
If you are, you’ll relish the 180-degree views of country greenery and hillsides. Even the indoors are nirvana, with features like a woodfire, semi-ensuite bathroom, and high ceilings.
The hosts are a ray of sunshine, too. Petra and Harrie’s personal touch and hospitality are noteworthy.
When it comes to activities, there are walking trails nearby wherein you’ll bump into wildflowers, birds, and native animals.
The must-see attraction, though, is Lesmurdie Falls. Its jaw-dropping views of the Swan Coastal Plain might be enough to justify the high costs.
However, there’s another major snag beyond the price: securing a booking date is challenging due to their near-constant full occupancy. This is a huge blow to those without a flexible schedule.
Pros
- Historic charm
- Modern amenities
- Stunning views
- Near tourist attractions
- Offers several activities
- Great hosts
Cons
- Expensive nightly fee
- Limited availability
Couldn’t Have Been More Perfect
“I recommend Harry and Petra’s beautiful cottage for any excuse to getaway! Such a gorgeous, quiet location and such a down-to-Earth vibe. We booked the cottage for our wedding accommodation and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Thank you again!”

Warm and Helpful
“From a warm and helpful welcome from Petra to a cosy comfortable bed followed by a delicious breakfast we couldn’t fault anything. We enjoyed Harrie’s wine so much we bought more! The cottage is quiet and in a beautiful setting with views over the valley and only a short drive to local wineries and restaurants. Petra’s talent is obvious in her pottery and, yes, we bought a piece too.”

If rustic serenity is what your soul seeks, Gumleaf Cottage Farmstay might be what you need. Beloved for its farm experience, this spot’s highlights include animal feeding, pony rides, fruit picking, and possum spotting.
For the accommodation, the cottages flaunt striking villa aesthetics and pasture panoramas. And to make things more soothing, there are private patios and verandas with BBQs.
Kiddos are in for a treat, as well. There’s a playground with a huge trampoline and ride-on toys—all complimentary.
In terms of more sweat-breaking locations, there are explorable hiking and cycling trails directly from the farm gate, all leading through nearby forests. Speaking of the forest, you can spot kangaroos and picnic there.
We aren’t fans of the single window facing the main driveway, though, with curtains as the only privacy solution.
Larger groups or families might also find cooking challenging due to the limited number of kitchen utensils available.
Pros
- Kid-friendly amenities
- Farm views
- Near attractions
- Lux-looking cottages
- Diverse farm activities
- Has well-tamed animals
Cons
- Privacy concerns
- Limited kitchen utensils
- Seasonal activities
Clean and Comfortable
“We stayed at the 3 bedroom cottage and we really enjoyed it! It was clean and comfortable, most importantly the kids had a really great time. Thank you for the hospitality and making the kids’ first farm stay so memorable, Cathy and Evie!! Not forgetting the two lovely dogs Teddy and Laura that the kids still miss a lot.”

Can’t Wait to Return
“We just returned from 2 nights stay at Gumleaf cottage with our 8year old and 3year old. We fed all the animals, went on pony rides, collected eggs, had afternoon naps, the kids played in the gardens, it was wonderful. Cathy was kind and helpful with everything we needed. The kids loved it and can’t wait to return. The accommodation was clean with pretty decor and a homely feel.”

Perth Hills Accommodation is where we uncorked relaxation, figuratively and literally. During our stay, vineyard views and wine-tasting activities at nearby wineries were the praise-worthy features, particularly since we visited in February.
The Cabernet Carriage where we crashed deserves a shoutout, too. This restored 100-year-old railway carriage is enveloped by a fragrant garden. Setting a romantic escape here is a no-brainer (unless the slightly uncomfortable bed would be a concern).
We also enjoyed hitting up the wildlife parks and walking trails. On top of that, we had a blast swinging by the quaint town to try old-world cafes and restaurants.
Additionally, the aromatherapy bath was a soothing touch, if you don’t mind the steep price tag.
Another hiccup was the average and limited variety of food they served us during the continental breakfast. For two mornings, they whipped up the same set of run-of-the-mill bread and pastries.
Pros
- Affordable
- Near Perth
- Near attractions
- Romantic
- Vineyard views
Cons
- Uncomfortable bed
- Expensive aromatherapy bath
- Average and limited food
Little Piece of Heaven
“Jamie…. thank you for your hospitality. Taking me in as a bushfire evacuee in the middle of the night. Service above and beyond. I can’t thank you enough. Your little piece of heaven helped me to lower my stress levels as i was worried if I had a home to go back to. Next morning you contacted me to see if there was anything I needed. That little gesture was a huge comfort in a difficult situation. All I can say is, “Bless your little cotton sox” and a huge “THANK YOU!”
It’s a “YES” from me 10/10″

Very Romantic
Just amazing in every way. The carriages were beautiful and very cosy. The courtyard outside our carriage was literally a fairytale scene with light candles and an impressive solid rock stone bathtub. That night we had a magnesium, bath salts and rose petals bath that was very romantic.
The best part is Vince, ( the owner) allows me to park my motorcycle right outside my door.

The Swan Valley Retreat may be bank-breaking, but those who can afford it are in for a lavish retreat amid enchanting vineyards.
Their Wine Barrel Room turns something as simple as a cottage into an opulent crash pad even city hotels don’t have. From its cedar furnishings and soaring ceilings to the bespoke hot tub and private balcony, this haunt is a taste of pure indulgence.
Furthermore, there are A-grade amenities to enhance your stay, like the professional full-size tennis court, golf course, and cozy fire pit.
Prepare for pampering, too. This retreat’s spa services hook guests from Perth and beyond, with treatments like facials, aromatherapy, and massages.
On the flip side, there have been complaints about the lackluster food.
Several guests have also criticized their therapists for giving rushed and sloppy massages, which is disappointing considering their high price.
Pros
- Top-tier amenities
- Vineyard views
- Luxurious cottage
- Diverse packages
- Has wildlife
Cons
- Very expensive
- Lackluster food
- Rushed massages
Wonderful Massage
“Amazing accommodation and facilities. Private spa, shared sauna, tennis court, view from room fabulous. Had the most wonderful massage by Elle. Sitting on the verandah in a fabulous swivel sofa with a wine was the best. Will definitely come back and highly recommend.”
