The Best Disability Support Services in Perth Offering Heartfelt Care

Compassion and Empathy: We opted for carers who genuinely treat individuals with kindness and respect, no matter their cultural beliefs, religion, or language. Flexibility and Adaptability: These professionals can adjust to new or unforeseen challenges and changes, may it be routine shifts or health concerns. Communication Skills: We featured carers who communicate clearly and respectfully. They’re also skilled in simplifying their language or identifying non-verbal cues. Qualification: In Australia, formal qualifications aren’t required to become a disability support worker. That said, we gave bonus points to those with suitable credentials, like a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) or expertise in a certain field, like cooking or health-related disciplines. Experience: We went with carers who have at least 3 years on their resume.

As someone who looks after a sister with a disability, I really appreciate Perth for its legal protection and accessible design accommodating folks of all abilities.

Plus, we have disability support services helping people like my sister live life on their own terms, may it be through social inclusion or personal care.

My sister, for instance, needs a hand with her daily grooming, and since I can’t always be there, having a respectful, empathetic carer is a blessing.

Of course, not all services do the same thing. Some focus on mobility, others on psychological, and a few on total well-being. No need to stress it out, though, we will break down the top NDIS-funded options, so you’ll know which is the best fit.

My sister is one of the individuals supported by the 2019-founded Good Company Disability Services. Even if that weren’t the case, though, they’d still get a spot here.

For one, I appreciate the multifaceted approach. Yes, services are mostly personalised, but clients can opt for holistic options, usually concerning mentoring, skills training, and social engagement in one.

The latter has been superbly beneficial for my sister. She no longer feels isolated and has made friends thanks to the organisation’s numerous community events. Her favourites are the karaoke and dance classes!

No issues with the mentors/carers too. While most don’t have certificates, they’re all experienced in volunteering, having supported people with disabilities before.

Also, they partner with local businesses, a win if you’re seeking an inclusive workspace.

However, the office is closed on weekends. Good news is once you’re part of their family, you can contact team members 24/7.

Pros

  • Experienced (operating since 2019)
  • Multifaceted approach
  • Services can be personalised
  • Serviced individuals get 24/7 support
  • Hosts several community events
  • Works with local businesses
  • Mentors/workers are seasoned volunteers

Cons

  • Office closes every weekend
  • Lack of Certificate III in Individual Support

Caring, Professional, and Enthusiastic

‘My Grandchild has been supported by Good Company Disability Services since April 13th 2024. Their way of mentoring means their clients will often be provided with more than one mentor assuring there is always back up and diversity. The mentors provided have been caring, professional and enthusiastic. Good Company also communicate well and are open to constant collaboration with my Grandchild and I and any other support services. In a time of uncertainty and multiple stressors Good Company have offered encouragement and a helping hand.’

One of the major criticisms of the NDIS is its complexity. Fortunately, Blooming Supports is around to simplify the jargon so you can enjoy benefits without dealing with painful delays or eligibility criteria.

Additionally, they have a team of specialists, seasoned in handling crisis events and varying needs. That includes sudden hospitalisation, individuals with multiple disabilities, and high-risk participants.

Interviewees also mentioned their round-the-clock assistance, which functions as intended. Most say 24/7 care is provided when needed, ideal for those requiring assistance in daily tasks, like cooking or grooming.

However, most of their workers don’t have the CHC33015 certificate. The office also opens late and closes early during weekends, which could be inconvenient for those who can only arrange appointments then.

Even so, they’re worth it. The extensive service and programme list alone is a win—think community engagement, home maintenance, assistive technology support, and recovery coaching.

Pros

  • Operating since 2019
  • Focuses on simplifying the NDIS
  • Has specialist for crisis events
  • 24/7 assistance
  • Extensive service list
  • Personalised care

Cons

  • Limited weekend hours
  • Lack of certificate

Provided Assistance and Much Needed Care

‘The Blooming Services Team have been great in providing my family with the support and encouragement I have needed during some challenging times in my life. They have provided assistance and much needed care for my son when I was not able to do so. They have been very paciente in finding the right carers for my son to provide the right care and support he has needed. I highly recommend their services to other parents who need to feel confident in leaving their loved one in their care.’

Convenience-wise, Arise Services is among the best. For starters, their responses don’t take a day, and you won’t be put on a waiting list since they’re open for same-day appointments.

As for services, they have some that most carers here don’t offer, namely transport assistance, which includes reliable and safe transport to social events or work.

Arise’s accommodation services are also diverse. There are temporary housing, medium-term, and long-term accommodation, the latter even equipped with 24/7 care.

Furthermore, they have allied health teams that provide therapy services, particularly to those requiring behavioural and social counselling.

Same as others, though, most of their workers are experienced but lack certification. Not having a physical office might also be a hassle for those who prefer face-to-face help.

On the upside, they’re multicultural and multilingual. That ticks the inclusivity factor.

They also run many events. One of the latest was a playgroup for kids with autism.

Pros

  • Same-day appointments
  • Transport services
  • Diverse accommodation services
  • Has allied health teams
  • Multicultural and multilingual team
  • Active in hosting social events
  • Easy to reach

Cons

  • Lack of certification
  • Lack of physical office

State Wide Community Services zero in on personalised and specialised care. For example, if a client has autism, they’ll be assigned to a carer who’s experienced in ASD support.

They also fulfil linguistic and cultural needs, so clients get a support system that truly gets them.

Naturally, the basics, such as community participation, accommodation, and daily task assistance, are covered too.

State Wide’s defining strength, however, is collaboration. Stakeholders, families, and clients are all involved in one massive support network that exercises open communication and joint care planning.

Plus, their activities and groups include everyone—clients, carers, and families alike. Examples are movie nights, book clubs, and painting sessions.

A limitation is the absence of physiotherapy services. No CHC33015 as well.

The silver lining is their emphasis on other life skill development offerings. Specifically, their carers are well-equipped to handle clients with socialising, stress/anxiety management, communication, and budgeting needs.

Pros

  • Personalised and specialised care
  • Multicultural and multilingual
  • Extensive services
  • Emphasis on life skill development
  • Collaborative approach
  • Numerous social activities/events
  • Easy to contact

Cons

  • Lack of physiotherapy services
  • Lack of CHC33015
  • Weekend closure

If there’s one word to describe Open Sky, it’s ‘holistic.’ You see, their care packages are mostly designed to meet a client’s physical, emotional, social, and psychological needs.

That doesn’t mean they can’t customise services. In fact, this support group makes thorough assessments to identify personal goals, needs, or challenges.

Furthermore, clients requiring mobility or personal care support may go for one-on-one assistance. If meeting others is what you need or want, though, there are opportunities to join volunteer programmes or group outings.

Counselling is on the table as well, and, naturally, it’s done by experts. Just a heads-up—most of these carers don’t hold the CHC33015 certificate.

Still, they do things right. The fact that most clients happily stay for at least 18 months says a lot.

On top of that, Open Sky has 24/7 disability support, backing up their primary services, chiefly the employment, housing, and health fronts.

Pros

  • Holistic approach
  • Does thorough assessments
  • Hosts many social events
  • Provides counselling
  • Clients often happily stay
  • Has 24/7 disability support
  • Open daily

Cons

  • Relatively new (founded in 2021)
  • No CHC33015 certificate
