The Best Dog Beaches in Perth That Will Have Your Pup Barking for Joy

Summer in Perth has it all—picnics, snorkelling, swimming with dolphins—you name it. And if you’re a fur parent like us, hitting the dog beach with your four-legged mate is a top priority.

Whether you’re after a cute new pic for the ‘gram or just fancy a bit of a stretch with your pet, there’s a dog-friendly beach around every corner here. If you’re wondering which spots we love to hang out most, we have a list ready below!

South Freo Dog Beach

From perthkittykat

Address: Marine Terrace, South Fremantle
Contact Details: +61 8 9432 9999
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

If Perth hands out an award for the city’s ‘most dog-friendly beach,’ we won’t throw fits if South Freo Dog Beach gets the hardware. Stop by any day here, and you’ll catch folks of any age and pups of all breeds, making it a prime location for socialising.

There’s even a designated swimming area in the northern section, which doubles as a play zone. The cherry on top is the aptly named ‘Freo Stick Library’ where you can borrow sticks for an entire arvo of fetching.

Tip: If you want to dodge the crowds, your best bet is between 6 pm and 9 pm.

Leighton Beach

From misslucycarrington

Address: Leighton Beach
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Leighton Beach is a winner for both two-legged and four-legged beachgoers, with 2 km of white sand and shallow waters for cooling off. There’s even an off-leash area for letting your babies find or play with new mates.

In addition, the views are meant for ‘my dog is living their best life’ snaps, as on a bright day, you’ll spot Freo Port and Rotto sitting pretty in the distance. Just keep an eye out for stingers!

Tip: Taking the train is a handy option, with the beach just an 800-m stroll from North Fremantle station.

CY O’Connor Beach

From romelurch

Address: North Congee
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

CY O’Connor Beach, right near the old South Freo Power Station, was our latest stop, and the dogs went full tilt from the get-go. The long stretches of pristine white sand definitely put them in a running mood.

That was not the only reason too, as the beach’s off-leash status was what allowed them to zoom and sniff shells to their heart’s content. The spot’s proximity to BBQs, water fountains, and loos was also pretty convenient.

Tip: Bringing a mate? Pack your snorkelling gear, hand them the pup for a bit, and make your way to the SS Wyola shipwreck for a good look around.

Quinns Rocks Dog Beach

From kez.rea

Address: 156/158 Ocean Dr, Quinns Rocks
Contact Details: +61 8 9405 5000
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

With a squad full of Poms and Frenchies, Quinns Rocks had to make the cut. The shoreline is mostly soft sand, and thanks to the natural offshore reefs, the water stays nice and calm for our little doggy paddlers.

Comfort-wise, we have no gripes. Car park parks are plenty and beach trekker wheelchairs are available. That’s good news since you’ll mostly be treading on downhill and uphill sand dunes here.

Tips:

  • Wear proper reef shoes or sturdy water shoes. Some areas, especially the southern end sections, have sharp rocks that aren’t kind to bare feet.
  • Stay away from rocks, logs, or burrows. They’re known hiding spots for the venomous Dugite snakes.

Point Walter Dog Beach

From suzie_the_labkelpie

Address: Unit 2/10 Burke Dr, Attadale
Contact Details: +61 8 9364 0666
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

If our mood calls for a quieter location, Point Walter is where we leg it. Sitting pretty along Attadale’s Point Walter Reserve—just a breezy 23-minute drive from Perth CBD—it’s easy to reach but still far enough from the usual chaos.

The swimming area stays shallow, so dipping is typically on the table here. The airy waterfront is also prime for stretching, with the Melville Water panoramas as icing on the cake.

Tip: Bring something to grill. Plenty of BBQs are ready to be fired up here.

Secret Harbour Dog Beach

From lprice1104

Address: Palermo Cove
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Off-the-lead romps just hit differently at Secret Harbour Beach, perched in the far south. Midweek peace is practically a given here, and there’s heaps of space for zoomies or a swim.

There’s even a lake just across the car park—though that one is strictly an on-lead affair, as swans frequent the area. And speaking of the car park, it comes with outdoor showers and a water fountain, meeting the convenience mark.

Tips:

  • The water is great for fishing, particularly if you’re rolling late or around sunset. Whiting, tailor, and tarwhine are the usual reels.
  • Watch out for sand leeches if you opt for a night trip!

Bayswater Riverside Gardens

From opshock

Address: King William St, Bayswater
Contact Details: +61 8 9272 0622
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Website

Bayswater Riverside Gardens might not be your classic sandy stretch, but it more than earns its place here. Sitting pretty along the Swan River, it’s a shady retreat with separate play zones for big and little dogs, with agility gear, doggy bins, and stroll-worthy pathways.

Moreover, space is hardly an issue, with off-lead green areas for zoomies galore. Best of all, pups can swim on the river when the mercury rises.

Tip: You can snag some snacks from the food trucks, but they pack up by noon, so grab some before they leave.

Silver Sands Dog Beach

From redcloudrosie

Address: 207 Ormsby Terrace
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Silver Sands Dog Beach in Mandurah is a far cry from the city’s frenzy, and that’s exactly why it’s the locals’ preferred choice. Another reason is the soft, 1.5-km shoreline meant for casual, off-lead strolls.

Not-so-confident paddlers won’t have too many issues as well, thanks to the beach’s low surf. And if you’re lucky, you might just spot a few dolphins!

Tip: Dress for the conditions. This spot is known for its strong winds.

Rockingham Dog Beach

From smilewithyoeyes_

Address: East Rockingham
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

If our recent trips to Rockingham Dog Beach have taught us anything, it’s that big waves are a rarity there. Our smaller pups swam in peace, even the not-so-confident ones.

The off-lead setup meant peaceful strolls too, with a low-tide sandbar and plenty of water bowls for a mid-play pit stop. It also gets extra points for the lawned picnic area and those CBH Kwinana Grain Jetty views!

Tip: Don’t forget the kiddos. The shallows here are suited for them.

Jervoise Bay Dog Beach

From ellienettytapp

Address: 501 Jervoise Bay Cove, Coogee
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Overlooking the Henderson shipyards, Jervoise Bay Dog Beach is one of the quietest stretches around. The calm, turquoise waters make it small-dog-friendly, though you’ll want to watch out for a few rocky patches underfoot.

On the convenience front, it has the essentials, including outdoor showers, changing rooms, and toilets. The nearby parking area rarely fills up too, so you’re better off cruising in a car.

Tip: Kitesurfing is massive on this beach, so if you have the gear, give it a go.

Bennion Beach

From billie.bowie.theaussies

Address: Bennion Beach
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Dogs that love a good adventure will have a blast sniffing out the nooks and crannies of Bennion Dog Beach. Rugged formations are common, and the area’s smaller, more intimate space is a welcome change from the busier destinations.

The waves can get a bit rowdy though, so smaller pups might want to sit this swim out. But if the goal is to let them explore rocky outcrops, sniff shells, and escape the noise, Bennion Beach does the trick.

Tip: Instead of forking out for bottled water, just bring a reusable bottle. There are loads of water fountains around.

North Beach Dog Beach

Address: North Beach
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

A hop and skip from the Flora Terrace café strip, North Beach Dog Beach had us hooked right away. Yeah, the Lawley Street entrance is rocky, but the calm shallows made up for it. Plus, if you don’t fancy clambering over stones, there are stairs at the southern end.

Also, the beach’s 500-m size was enough for our tinier pups to shake off their sillies without getting lost in the crowd. Speaking of crowds, our last visits saw just the right number of dogs—enough for a bit of socialising.

Tip: Fridays tend to be the busiest day here. Skip it if you’re after some quiet time.

Peasholm Dog Beach (Floreat Dog Beach)

From leothekelpie1

Address: 3QH4+67, City Beach
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Most of our pups, big or small, have sharpened their swimming chops at Peasholm or Floreat Dog Beach. The waves stay on the gentler side—especially in the mornings—and the crystal-clear waters are great for snaps.

Off the sand, the roomy dunes are fit for explorations and meeting new friends. Night walks are also on the cards, courtesy of the quality and well-positioned floodlights lining the stretch.

Tip: Flip-flops are the better footwear here, as the sand is pretty grainy.

Hillarys Dog Beach

From willow.rose.adventures

Address: 140 Whitfords Ave, Hillary
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours

Sitting just north of swimming hotspot Whitford Nodes, Hillarys Dog Beach is all about good times, paddles, and salty fur. Even better, there are off-leash hours—typically on Sundays and weekday evenings.

Convenience is also king here, with plenty of parking, doggy bags, an exercise park, and cleaning stations all sorted. Weekend visitors might also catch a coffee van!

Tip: You can drive right up. There’s plenty of parking, plus bins and dog bags to make life easier for your pet.

Yanchep Dog Beach

From trustedhousesitters

Address: 69 Brazier Rd
Operating Hours: Daily – 24 hours
Website

Quieter times await at the secluded Yanchep Dog Beach. With 1.5 km of powdery sand and full off-leash freedom, it’s a spot where pups can dart, sniff, and walk out without a heavy crowd cramping their mood.

The beach’s primary downside is it sees rough waves, making swimming unsafe, particularly for smaller breeds. Other than that, it’s a no-brainer, with plenty of parking spaces and doggy bags to boot.

Tip: Check the Yanchep surf report before you head out if your pup loves a swim. This beach’s waves can get pretty gnarly.
