The 15 Best Fuss-Free Family-Friendly Cafes in Perth Your Kids Will Love

In Perth, dropping the kids off with the grandparents is unnecessary when you grab a cafe feed. Nah, here, you can scoff down pancakes or smash a coffee with the little ones.

The sheer world of options makes things all the sweeter. Whether it’s an alfresco spot where kids can do cartwheels on the grass or a quirky joint with its own playground, Perth has family-friendly cafes in spades.

The Little Banksia

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 7 am to 2:30 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 7 am to 2 pm

One bite of The Little Banksia’s pancakes and we knew we’d be back. Fluffy and fresh, those beauties came with premium goodies like crème fraîche parfait and rose-poached pear.

The kids were also all over the cafe’s play area, and we were right there with them. It was spacious enough for a game of tag, and there was a large bookable table which made watching over the rugrats a breeze.

Tip: You can buy ceramics here, and if you want a deal, opt for the reusable cups; they’re discounted.

Ootong & Lincoln

From ootongandlincoln

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 6 am to 3:30 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 6:30 am to 3:30 pm

Website

Getting the kids to leave Ootong & Lincoln was a mission. They were glued to the play area with toys, and the subtly sweet babycinos fuelled them for an entire afternoon.

To be honest, we were just as hooked, as the sunny atmosphere was right up our alley. Plus, their iconic shakshuka delivered; it was herby, zesty, and properly spiced without going full throttle.

Tip: Walk-ins are good here, but we strongly recommend booking given the cafe’s popularity.

It’s no wonder Yagan Square’s Stories is full of tiny tots. The place sprawls with five whole stories and a play area big enough for children to go crazy post-shopping or dining.

Food-wise, Stories has a bit of everything, since it’s not just one place but a whole bunch of cafes and restaurants. Karla is one to check out, with its famed Asian-Aussie meals, like the famed tom yum fried rice that bursts with zesty and umami notes.

Tip: Make your next shindig grander by hosting it in one of their function spaces.

The Orange Box

From theorangeboxcafe

Contact Details: +61 434 353 311

Operating Hours: Daily – 6:30 am to 3 pm

To top it off, the kids can run a riot on the well-kept lawn while you enjoy the sunshine with a brew. Make sure to fuel them with the cafe’s runny and decadent eggs benedict once they’ve worn themselves out!

Tip: Since the lawn is one of this Freo staple’s highlights, pop by when the weather is playing nice.

Home to sought-after hot chocolates and an enclosed playground, 115 Collective is as family-friendly as it gets. It’s also well-shaded, so you won’t worry too much about the kids turning into tomatoes in the sun.

For bites, burgers are their best-sellers, all paired with golden fries. The Classic is a solid choice; it features a smashed beef patty topped with red onions and American cheese.

Tip: The chillest period is typically between 12 pm and 1 pm.

Operating Hours:

  • Tue to Fri – 11 am to 10 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 8 am to 10 pm

Website

Bailey Brewing Co. turned our latest wine country escape into a proper treat. Surrounded by lush greenery and flexing a BIG playground, it’s a feel-good haunt for some ginger beer as the kids stretch.

We didn’t go hungry, too. The cheeseburger, leaning on creamy and meaty, was a massive hit among our kids, while we grownups cleaned plates of savoury-sweet steak sarnies.

Tip: Check their wedding packages if you’re seeking a down-to-earth but romantic venue for tying the knot.

Gage Roads Freo Brewery

Address: Peter Hughes Dr, Fremantle

Operating Hours: Daily – 11 am to 12 am

Website

Fun times and cold frothies are only half of Gage Roads Freo’s finest offerings. That’s enough for most grownups though, especially with their strong list of crisp lagers and tropical pale ales.

The tots won’t leave starving either, as this brewpub whips up fluffy fish and chips, best paired with a mango pavlova. Add to that a sandpit playground kitted out with a Land Cruiser and cray boat, and you’ll want to visit in no time.

Tip: You can bring your own cake and even use their fridge for storing it.

In the food department, kiddos can tuck into hearty classics like cheeseburgers or golden chicken tenders—with vanilla ice cream as a go-to finisher. Meanwhile, the grown-ups can blow the cobwebs away with a fiery margarita or a 150-gram steak sanga, flavoured BBQ-style.

Tip: Know who’s performing, so you can time your visit when your favourite band or artist is on stage.

The nosh, which comes with a complimentary juice, will have your mini-mes knackered in no time too. Clancy’s classic fish and chips are an easy choice, but if they want something heavier, go for the ham-and-cheese pizza.

Tip: Don’t leave your pups behind. Even if they’re of the furry variety, your fur babies are welcome here!

Bassendean Hotel

From thebassendeanhotel

Address: 25 Old Perth Rd, Bassendean

Contact Details: +61 8 6149 5426

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 11 am to 10 pm
  • Fri to Sat – 11 am to 12 am
  • Sun – 11 am to 10 pm

Website

After a flashy $7 million facelift, the Bassendean Hotel has been drawing in more crowds, including our lot. One of the finest additions is a massive outdoor playground that can get hectic on weekends but is still worth the stop.

The best bit is how the food is as lip-smacking as ever. We’re usually all in on the chicken schnitzels, but last time, we went for the 150-gram steak sandwich smothered in English cheddar—zero regrets.

Tip: You can host corporate events here.

The Morris

Address: 2 Morris Rd, Innaloo

Contact Details: +61 8 9446 2424

Website

The Morris’ $3 million renovation has well and truly paid off. It now fits a whopping 1,500 punters, looks sleek as anything, and comes with a terrace that has an outdoor playground.

Good news is Foodie sessions still focus on flavour and comfort; fams can catch up while sharing plates of parmesan croquettes or homemade chips. And if you’re feeling extra, the Sunday roast pie hits home, packed with silky chicken, rich gravy, and creamy mash.

Little T’s

From littlets.cafe

Address: 732 Karrinyup Rd, Balcatta

Contact Details: +61 452 027 732

Operating Hours: Daily – 6:30 am to 3 pm

Facebook

Sure, Little T’s isn’t the grandest joint here, but it ticks all the essentials. The playground is neat, shaded, and fenced off, so parents can wind down and only figure out what to feed the sprogs after they play.

Our winning suggestion is the cafe’s kids’ pancakes—light as a cloud and accompanied by a dollop of chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If they’re after a drink, go for smoothies and milkshakes, particularly the strawberry-flavoured ones.

Tip: They regularly drop specials for a limited time. Follow them on the ‘Gram for the latest ones.

Slate Cafe isn’t just dog-friendly; it’s also made for kids! There are two playgrounds: an indoor rock climbing zone and a nature-inspired outdoor area, with a grassy picnic spot to boot.

Concerning grub, grown-ups can’t go wrong with Slate’s hefty burger, which sandwiches a slow-cooked pork patty and fresh coleslaw. As for the little ones, the Ferrero Rocher cheesecake is the pleaser, thanks to its creamy and nutty character.

Tip: Groups of 4 or more should make reservations.

Hobart Deli

For instance, the little peeps can feast on buttery scrambled eggs for just 11 bucks. Or, just add a dollar and opt for the more popular alternative—large pancakes covered in maple syrup.
