The Best Family Staycation Spots in Perth We Keep Coming Back To

When school holidays roll around in Perth, I’m all about making the most of family time without emptying the wallet. One of the best ways I’ve found to do that is by booking a stay at family-friendly hotels.

The great thing about these hotels is that they have everything you need right there—pools for splashing around, kids’ clubs for endless entertainment, and on-site restaurants so you don’t have to worry about cooking.

To help other parents, I’ve put together a list of the best family staycation spots in Perth. I hope this will let you relax and enjoy each other’s company without the stress of long-distance travel.

When school holidays roll around in Perth, Crown Metropol is one of those places we keep coming back to. Situated along the Swan River in Burswood, it’s just minutes from the Perth CBD and is easily accessible.

What my kids love the most about this hotel is its pool area. There’s a lagoon-style pool with waterslides and a kids’ water play area. The hotel even has an indoor play area, the Kids Hub, that’s filled with games and toys.

As for me and my hubby, we definitely love the spa and gym facilities here. It’s also nice that Burswood Park is right next door for picnics and walks, and Perth Zoo is just a short drive away for a fun day out with the kids.

Pro tip: If you sign up for the Crown Direct loyalty program, you can get access to exclusive deals and discounts, including up to 15% off the best available rate. You’ll also receive special offers on dining, entertainment, and more.

Another hotel we frequently stay in, especially when we’re too lazy to drive around the city, is Holiday Inn. It’s located right in the middle of the CBD and is only 12 kilometres from the airport, making it very accessible.

A huge reason we keep coming back here is their Very Important Kids (VIK) program. Kids get treated like little VIPs here with special menus, fun activities, and surprises during their stay.

Plus, their Kids Stay & Eat Free program has been a huge help in making our staycations here a bit cheaper. I also like that the family rooms here are spacious, with separate twin rooms for the kids, which makes it comfortable for everyone.

Pro tip: Before you book your stay, make sure to download their IHG One Rewards app from either Play Store or App Store. This app makes checking in and out a breeze, and it lets you rack up points for every stay. These points can then be redeemed for exclusive rewards like free nights and room discounts.

Parmelia Hilton is another staycation spot in the Perth CBD I can recommend for the whole family. It’s just a short stroll from the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and Brookfield Place.

The best thing about this hotel is that its rooms aren’t that expensive. They also have some nice amenities like high-speed internet, flat-screen TVs, and an outdoor heated pool where you and the kids can spend some quality time together.

It’s also nice that there’s plenty to do nearby. Elizabeth Quay is just a short walk away, with playgrounds, water parks, and boat rides. There’s also Kings Park and Botanic Garden if you want to enjoy a quick picnic with the fam.

Pro tip: Save some cash by booking your stay through the “Honors Advance Purchase Discount” program. Just make sure to book your room at least 7 days in advance, and you could save up to 17% off the best available rate.

I have to admit, COMO The Treasury is a bit on the pricier side for our usual staycations, but when we’re in the mood for a bit of luxury, it’s our top pick. It’s located in the historic State Buildings, which is one of the oldest structures in Perth.

The best way to enjoy this 5-star hotel with the whole family is by taking advantage of their “Holiday With Your Family” package. It includes spacious rooms, daily breakfast at Post, and fun in-room amenities for kids like playhouse tents and colouring sets.

What’s also nice about staying here is how central it is. We can easily explore all the cool spots around Perth without having to catch a cab or a bus. Be sure to check out the Perth Cultural Centre and Elizabeth Quay while you’re there. You won’t regret it!

Pro tip: Keep an eye on their offers page for exclusive deals and packages that you won’t typically find on third-party booking sites. It’s also a good idea to book your room as early as possible to take advantage of their Advance Purchase rates.

The Intercontinental is a 5-star hotel right in the middle of the CBD, making it super convenient for a family staycation. The spacious rooms are great for families and come with free WiFi, smart TVs, and plush bedding.

One of the best parts about staying here is the dining options. Heno & Rey is a good example since it offers relaxed alfresco dining with delicious Spanish tapas, which my kids absolutely loved.

It was also nice that we got to try the Family Getaway Package. It comes with special gifts for the kids, a family ticket to SciTech, and discounted parking rates. Plus, our kids got free breakfast at Ascua, which was a nice bonus.

Pro tip: Since The Intercontinental is also part of the IHG Hotel Group, it’s a smart move to download the IHG One Rewards app before booking your stay. Not only can you earn points with each stay, but the app also gives you access to special discounts and promotions.

These apartments are pretty neat because they’re all equipped with their own kitchens, air-conditioning, high-speed WiFi, and flat-screen TVs. Some even have balconies, which is great for viewing the Perth skyline.

What I like the most is how spacious and quiet the rooms are. During the hottest summer days, we often book an apartment here so we can relax all day with the air conditioner on, without worrying about the electricity bill.

When the kids are in the mood for some beachside fun, I often book us a room at Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough. It’s located right beside Scarborough Beach and just a quick 15-minute drive from the Perth CBD.

What we love most about this hotel are the amenities. There’s a lagoon-style pool, a fitness centre, and a body spa. The dining options are great too! Straits Cafe offers delicious meals with stunning ocean views.

We also love the games and tennis court. They’re great for some family bonding time. Plus, we sometimes head to the nearby Hillarys Boat Harbour for a bit of shopping and exploring.

If you prefer enjoying your staycation in the Perth CBD without breaking the bank, you might like the European Hotel. It’s a boutique hotel that’s been around since 1911, making it one of the oldest hotels in the city that’s still operating today.

Part of what makes staying here a nice experience is the scenery. The hotel has its own rooftop garden where you’ll be treated to an amazing view of the Perth skyline.

And because of its location, you and the kids won’t have a hard time getting around Perth. Like the other Perth CBD hotels I mentioned earlier, the European Hotel is only a couple of blocks away from attractions like Yagan Square and Elizabeth Quay.

Pro tip: You can save more money on your bookings here by taking advantage of their limited-time deals and discounts. To stay updated on their latest promotions, follow their Facebook and Instagram pages.

For those who prefer having a staycation that’s far from the bright lights of the Perth CBD, check out Discovery Parks in Swan Valley. It’s located on the northeastern edge of the city and is near the heart of the Swan Valley wine region.

This place has a solid range of accommodation options, from modern cabins to powered camping sites. Most of the cabins are air-conditioned, so you can comfortably book one any time of the year.

Aside from the beautiful wine valley scenery, what makes this place good for family staycations is the amenities. There’s a fenced swimming pool, a movie room, and pedal karts for the kids to enjoy.
