We get it—Perth’s energy has been grinding you down. Been there, suffered that. Lucky for you, we also know a simple fix: a proper farm stay.
There’s just something about swapping the city hullabaloo for birdsong that puts life back in order. Hardly shocking, really. Who wouldn’t want to wake up amid stretching fields instead of clogged streets?
So go on; take your city-worn soul for a breather. Start with the rustic getaways we recommend below!

Imagine the joy we felt when we realized Gumleaf Cottage Farmstay isn’t light-years from Perth.
The lovely photos we saw did the 12-acre farm justice, as they weren’t different from the actual thing. Here, bushlands did meet with pastures, and the 100-year-old farm cottage indeed came with its log fireplace, cosy beds, and patio BBQ, all well-maintained.
Outdoors, we spent hours collecting eggs and picking fruits, while the sprogs ran wild at the sprawling playground. The lot explored the bushlands too, and we even spotted local kangaroos during the golden hour and possums at night!
Tip: For those bunking with kids, there’s no need to pack toys. They have plenty here.

There are several ways to fully soak in Swan Valley, and crashing it at Settlers Rest Farmstay is among the best. Here, you’ll be snoozing in a rustic, three-bedroom cottage, designed with the region’s 20th-century homes in mind.
The experience isn’t confined to the room, as you can feed farm animals, swim, or have picnics on the riverbank. They even do casual talks about their prized horses at the stable around 4:30 pm.
You should also prepare your palate for wine tastings. A-tier wineries like Black Swan Winery and Talijancich Wines are just 3–10 minutes away and are usually included in itineraries.
Tip: Don’t forget your fishing gear or canoe. Visitors have access to the river.

The Swan Valley Retreat adds a posh side to farm stays. Thirteen acres of well-manicured gardens and greenery dominate the property, and guests kip in barrel-shaped rooms with 60-inch TVs, freestanding bathtubs, and panoramic saunas.
Luxurious pampering is also part of the experience—a bit pricey but worth each dollar. Exquisite treatments like massages and hydrotherapy will melt your worries and untangle knots you probably didn’t even know existed.
That sounds not so farm-ish, right? Dead wrong. If you head out for a wander, sheep, goats, and alpacas will greet you. Even your breakfast is farm-fresh—think organic cereals and yoghurt.

If you told us Bickley Valley Cottage is the chief reason Bickley Valley pulls throngs of tourists yearly, we’d back you. We didn’t want to leave this three-bedroom heritage accommodation and the wavy hills it’s perched on!
The 180-degree views of undulating landscapes and farm animals refreshed our minds, and the fact that everything—woodfire, Foxtel, utensils—was sorted didn’t hurt, either. Oh, and the entire dig is protected from the weather, so year-round comfort is locked in.
Things got way more fun once we braved the wilds though, particularly the walk to Lesmurdie Falls. Spring wildflowers and kangaroo mobs lined our path, but we weren’t fortunate enough to spot black cockatoos and wedge-tail eagles.
Tip: You can park here for free.

A location where vineyards and farmlands stretch up to the Bunbury Coast sounds like a tall tale—until you discover Ferguson Farmstay. The 50-acre property ticks the rustic and scenic boxes, as even the rammed earth and self-contained chalets look picturesque.
Separating the crash pads, which sleep 4–8 folks, are well-kept gardens and lawns, each with gas BBQs and partitioned bathing/living quarters. The weather doesn’t matter too, thanks to the reverse-cycle air conditioner and woodfire.
On top of that, you can feed farm animals and ride tractors as early as 8:30 am!
Tip: You must bring your own linen.

‘Pristine’ and ‘untamed’ barely do Boshack Outback justice. If you want a true-blue Aussie wilderness experience, this 300-acre working farm amid virgin bushlands and natural springs should make your list.
For starters, you’ll stay in insulated, high-ceiling cabins facing Lake Serene, which becomes more jaw-dropping during moonlit nights and the golden hour. It gets even better when campfire season is on, especially for stargazers.
The more adventurous type, though, can hit the walking trails or feed the beasts rather than just watch them. But if you came for something not overdone, why not throw boomerangs, try water divining, or catch some crayfish with your bare hands instead?
Tip: Schedule your stay during early winter or spring to see lots of wildflowers.

Most lovebirds and families go to Sandalwood Downs Fabulous Farm Stay for one precious thing—100 acres of solitude. Loud guests or parties are a no-go here, and being on a more secluded side of Toodyay helps preserve the chaos-free atmosphere.
Doesn’t mean you’ll just drift to dreamland here. Ravishing and rugged walk trails are just outside the self-contained rooms. You can look for alpacas or emus, and soapmaking workshops are on the table from Monday to Friday!
In addition, you can grill some BBQ while drinking beer on a spacious, elevated deck. No major gripes about the other amenities either—the bathrooms are modern and there’s a kitchenette—just BYO utensils.
Tip: Book a stay between May and September if you want to access the circle fire pit or see creeks.

Orchard Glory Farm Resort is for tired souls seeking a farm-stay-meets-holiday-resort experience. As cliche as it may sound, it’s the type of farm stay where roosters will wake you up for a tractor ride.
Feature-wise, self-contained chalets are the property’s main digs, while the sights are shaped by hills and a lake. The rooms look old-world but are quite modern, with TVs, air conditioners, and telephones at your disposal.
As for activities, lazy wanders and BBQs by the lake are what most guests choose to spend their arvos on. Little ones, though, usually prefer tossing food into the farm animals or picking fruits in the orchard.
Tip: You can host events with up to 100 guests here. Dial their digits or email [email protected] for the details.

Sitting pretty along Avon River’s sloping banks, Lavendale Country Retreat and Farmstay is what we think about when the word ‘postcard-worthy’ is brought up. Adding to its appeal are numerous animals you can feed, including donkeys, alpacas, and cattle.
What’s more, their 1, 2, and 3-bedroom accommodations come with necessary towels and bedding, giving your bag extra space. If you’re staying with a large group, the retreat’s cottages are also up for the task, flexing 18 bedrooms and 34 beds.
Outside is where the true ‘break from the city’ experience kicks in though, as you’ll indulge in seclusion with a side of stargazing, bushwalking, and art workshops. And once you’re all sweaty, there’s a brand new 20-metre pool for cooling down.
Tip: Call if you’re planning to bring your dog. Their complicated pet-related policies are best discussed over the phone.
