The Best Parks in Armadale I Love to Escape To
Armadale has been gaining popularity in recent years as one of Perth’s cheapest suburbs to live in. With both natural beauty and urban charm, it’s no surprise this place is seeing an influx of new residents lately.
However, many newcomers may still be unfamiliar with Armadale’s hidden gems—its stunning parks. If you’d love to spend some time soaking in fresh air, these are my favourite spots to take a breather in.
Plus, if you’re a parent, you can’t let your kids burn off some energy there while you enjoy the shade!

One of the nicest parks you can visit in the area is Memorial Park, which is just across from the Orchard House. It’s been around since the 1920s and was set up to honour the local soldiers who fought in World War I.
It has been improved throughout the years to be more family-friendly. Today, it boasts a charming train-themed playground and plenty of seating, making it the perfect spot for your kids to spend an entire afternoon playing, with quick breaks in the shade.
But the one thing I like the most about this park is its century-old trees. They certainly wowed me during my visit as I discovered that they were planted way back in 1921 as a tribute to the brave ANZAC soldiers!
Pro tip: After visiting Memorial Park, treat your kids to a movie night at the nearby Reading Cinemas.
For a quick bite, restaurants like Subway and Red Rooster are just inside the nearby Armadale Central Shopping Centre—perfect for satisfying those post-park cravings!

Another local park your kids will certainly love to visit is Newhaven Robot Park. This park, located at the corner of Mason Road and Doryanthes Avenue in Piara Waters, is relatively new and has quickly become a local favourite.
What makes it unique is its robot theme. Your kids will love climbing all over the giant robot head, complete with ramps, slides, and a rock climbing wall.
There’s even a water play area and a hamster wheel that kids can control! And for the thrill-seekers, there’s a 40-metre flying fox that’s sure to get their hearts racing. The park also has shaded BBQ areas where you can relax while your kids play.
Pro tip: Take note that Newhaven Robot Park is extremely popular and almost always jam-packed during the weekends! To avoid the crowd, it’s best to visit this park with your kids early in the morning.

It looks like the kids won’t be getting much rest because there’s another kid-friendly park you shouldn’t miss! This time we have Shipwreck Park, located at Weatherly Way in Hilbert.
The main attraction here is the pirate-themed playground with a giant shipwreck surrounded by rocks, sand, and shipping cargo. Kids can explore the ship’s helm, climb the rock walls, and even play with water features.
Another cool feature of the park is the all-abilities double flying fox. Plus, there’s a large grass area, a basketball court, and shaded BBQ facilities for picnics and social gatherings.
Pro tip: If you’re feeling peckish while the kids are playing, head over to the nearby Mooba Shipwreck coffee stand. Enjoy a quick snack and a cup of coffee, and don’t forget to pick up some delicious doughnuts to keep the little ones energised and happy!
Lions Park

Address: Carradine Road, Mount Nasura
When I was teaching my cousins how to ride their bikes, I took them to Lions Park in Mount Nasura. This park features a fantastic track that’s perfect for kids learning to ride their bikes and scooters for the first time.
It’s designed like a little road, complete with petrol pumps and road signs! There’s also a double swing set, including an accessible swing, so all kids can join in the fun.
After our bike riding lessons, we like to relax with a picnic at one of the shaded picnic tables. The lush greenery and mature trees surrounding the park create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Pro tip: After enjoying Lions Park, take a short trip to the nearby Pioneer Village. This charming attraction at 7 Albany Highway is a replica of an early settler’s gold mining village.
It’s a great way to add a bit of history and culture to your day out with the kids!

Jarrahdale Oval is a unique park nestled in the picturesque Perth Hills. This spot has a rich history tied to the local timber industry and serves as a versatile community space for various activities and events.

Another thing I love about this park is its expansive open space, perfect for picnics. There are plenty of picnic tables where my friends and I love to hang out and reminisce about the good times.
Pro tip: If you love working up a sweat while exploring the great outdoors of Armadale, check out the fantastic walking trails near Jarrahdale Oval! One of the most popular is Kitty’s Gorge, a 15-kilometre trail that takes you through stunning scenery, including rock formations, granite outcrops, and waterfalls.

Another lovely spot I love to unwind in when I’m in the area is Minnawarra Park. Located just across from the Armadale Town Hall, this park is part of the Minnawarra Historic Precinct.
It’s a pretty relaxing spot thanks to the large lake, which is home to a variety of water birds. Whenever I visit, I often find myself leisurely strolling or sitting by the water to soak in the serene surroundings.
The park’s expansive lawns also provide plenty of space for picnics, outdoor games, or just lounging in the sun.

In addition to the massive field where the games take place, the park features a basketball court where my friends and I occasionally shoot some hoops. It also has shaded picnic tables and benches, making it perfect for family picnics.
It’s also worth mentioning that it has a pirate ship-themed playground, perfect for preschoolers and toddlers. It includes sensory play elements, a music player, and even a “walk the plank” feature.

The park’s landform is quite dramatic, with undulating plateaux, steep rocky outcrops, and native bushland.
Part of the Darling Plateau, it’s a biodiversity hotspot, providing home to over 300 plant species that include the resilient jarrah trees. The park also features 100 species of birds, including some threatened ones like Baudin’s cockatoo and Carnaby’s cockatoo.
Pro tip: Pack a good pair of binoculars so you can admire the diverse wildlife better. Also bring plenty of water and some snacks, as trekking here can be exhausting.
Gwynne Park

Another local park I love visiting to play a few games with my pals is Gwynne Park. Known as the “Old Rec” back in the day, it’s been a hub for sports and recreation since the early 20th century.
It’s packed with features, including tennis courts, half-sized basketball courts, and footy fields. Some of Armadale’s local sports teams even play here!
The park is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friends along for a walk. There’s also a designated BBQ area that’s perfect for family picnics and gatherings.
Pro tip: If you’re interested in watching local games, check out the park’s sports schedule. Bring a foldable chair or picnic blanket so you can relax and enjoy the games in comfort!

For a laid-back, classic park experience, you’ll definitely want to head down to the Reg Williams Reserve. Located on Numulgi Street, it’s surrounded by residential areas and is one of the quieter parks I’ve included on this list.
There’s plenty to enjoy here. You’ll find a full-sized basketball court and fitness equipment for a good workout. There’s also a large bike track, perfect for a leisurely ride.
For the kids, the multi-level playground is a must-visit. It features a fort with slides, a fireman’s pole, and a bird’s nest swing. It even has a podium spinner and a double swing set that’ll guarantee a thrilling experience for the little ones.
Pro tip: Pack some sunscreen and a hat. Many areas, including the playground, are unshaded, so you’ll need some extra protection against the sun.
