The best spine specialists in Perth provide lasting relief

Experience: All of our entries have provided safe and effective spinal care to several patients for at least 3 years. The info was mostly gathered from professional profiles and, when available, patient interviews or testimonials. Accreditations and Certifications: Only those with qualifications like a FRACS (Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) made the list. Those with more gained extra points. Patient Care: We made sure to go with specialists who are known for their bedside manners, transparency, and follow-up care. To confirm this, we made use of patient interviews, reviews, and personal experiences. Facility and Tech: Specialists using advanced tools, like MRI scanners and robotic-assisted surgery systems, were prioritised. Service listings and patient reports had a strong bearing on this choice. Cost Efficiency: Spinal care is pricey, so we opted for clinics or specialists with transparent pricing structures and fees that’ll get you your money’s worth.

Ah, I despise a thousand things about aging, but back and neck problems easily crack the top 5. It was even worse as a writer with terrible posture.

Was. Luckily, those days are long gone. Before you think I had some miraculous recovery, though—nah, no divine intervention here. I had to see a qualified spine specialist who gave me the right diagnosis and treatment—literally setting me straight.

That’s why this review exists. For anyone suffering from spine issues, no matter the age, we rounded up the city’s finest orthopaedic and neurology experts below.

I know several people who have seen Dr. Siamak Seresti, and the consensus is that his professionalism is commendable. They say genuine care and reassurance were given the moment they first called him up to the post-op recovery period.

His qualifications make him well-equipped to deal with numerous spine issues, particularly degenerative conditions like sciatica and stenosis. Surgical and non-surgical options are available, and child treatment is sorted too.

Dr. Seresti’s speciality, though, is treating complex adult deformities, with sagittal imbalance and flat back syndrome as examples. Don’t worry if such terms sound daunting, as he explains stuff clearly, risks and benefits included.

Additionally, teleconsultations are offered, so you don’t always have to visit in person. His staff is also easy to reach and personable.

On the downside, self-funded patients can’t book with him. His clinic is also closed on weekends—tough luck if that’s your only free time.

Pros

  • Operating since 2021
  • Numerous qualifications
  • Offers follow-ups
  • Offers child treatment services
  • Offers surgical and non-surgical options
  • Speciality in adult deformities
  • Deals with several spine issues
  • Offers teleconsultations
  • Easy to reach

Cons

  • Doesn’t accept self-funded patients
  • Weekend closure

Exceptional Surgeon

‘Dr Seresti is simply amazing! Spectacularly positive outcome achieved with utmost professionalism and care. I could not have wished for a more exceptional surgeon and team. The subsequent Follow-ups have also been thorough and I have felt fully informed from the start. My sincerest gratitude for all involved! Thank you, Dr Seresti.’

Very Reassuring

‘I recently had the good fortune of being referred to Dr Seresti for a lower back issue requiring surgery.

From my first contact with the helpful reception staff I could not have been happier. Dr Seresti was very reassuring and I felt very confident with his approach.

It was great to see some good old fashioned caring concern.

My wife was surprised to receive a phone call from Dr Seresti himself immediately post op to explain everything had gone well.

Very grateful to all involved.

Regards Greg’

As an expert in neuro-oncology, Dr. Graham Jeffs is a strong choice if you need a specialist in brain and spinal cord tumours.

Patients we spoke to reported life-changing improvements post-treatment, with pain relief and restored mobility being the most common outcomes.

The doctor’s punctuality and patient-centred approach were also mentioned. They said he’s often on time and tailors treatments to individual needs, experiences, or preferences.

That said, his clinic closes on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, non-urgent patients may have to wait between 3 and 6 months for an initial consultation.

On the bright side, his treatment options are lengthy and comprehensive. Think spinal surgery, complex spinal reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, and spinal surgery care.

He even offers emergency neurosurgery, which is a crucial and immediate life-saving service for cases of trauma or stroke.

What’s more, he speaks Persian in addition to English, a win for Persian-speaking patients.

Pros

  • Specialises in spinal and brain tumours
  • Punctual
  • Patient-centred approach
  • Extensive service list
  • Speaks Persian
  • Easy to reach
  • Offers emergency neurosurgery

Cons

  • Weekend closure
  • Long wait time (3–6 months)

Goes Above and Beyond

‘Thank you Dr. Graham Jeff’s,

I do apologise that it’s taken me a while to write up a review but honestly I remember being hesitant coming into to see you.All that pressure was relieved with in the first minute of our conversation. I have to admit out of all the specialists I have ever visited no one has shown the amount of time and care you did. I am thankful to be able to walk…sneeze..cough…lay down…sit…sleep…drive and much more. I am still in the process of muscle recovery but pain free from my herniated disk. I would also like to commend Diana for being absolutely amazing and caring. Never come across a receptionist who will contact and return calls when ever I needed to cater to my needs and help. She goes above and beyond and I most definitely appreciate this lady and what she done for me. Dr. Jeff’s and Diana are both absolutely amazing and I am very thankful I met them. Both actually showed alot of care and definitely deserve 5 ‘

Kind, Compassionate, Open, Honest, and Transparent

‘I cannot say enough great things about Dr Jeffs, from my first call to Diana to a rather unreasonable request for injections instead of surgery for a holiday, to the actual surgery neither can be faulted. Dr Jeffs is the ONLY Dr I would ever trust with my spine, I’m 20 days out and have less pain than I’ve had in 10 years. He is kind, compassionate, open, honest and transparent. Diana is a delight to deal with. Excellent practice. Thank you so much. Di Barrett’

Dr. Stephen B. Lewis meets our experience standards. Practising since 2013, he’s well-versed in complex spinal procedures, skull-based neurosurgery, and neurovascular surgery.

That’s not all. At the University of Florida, he performed over 1,500 neurovascular procedures, making him one of the most experienced specialists in the field.

Furthermore, he offers other treatments, not just the ones above. Examples include movement disorder surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and neuro-oncology.

Another major perk is his use of minimally invasive techniques. These rely on smaller incisions and specialised equipment, reducing post-op pain and greatly shortening hospital stays.

The hiccup? His clinic leans on the pricier side. Some clients have also raised concerns over less-than-friendly interactions with the reception staff.

Good news is Dr. Lewis rarely gets flak. Patients describe him as calm, reassuring, and even humorous.

Several also called him ‘informative.’ That’s hardly a surprise since he has published over 70 scientific papers.

Pros

  • Operating since 2013
  • Minimally invasive techniques
  • Performed over 1,500 neurovascular procedures
  • Lighthearted
  • Informative

Cons

  • Prices can go beyond Perth’s usual rates
  • Unfriendly staff

Has a Warm Personality

‘I cannot speak highly enough about Dr Stephen Lewis. Contemplation of spinal surgery can be daunting. But Dr Lewis had a calm and confident manner which was reassuring. I never felt pressured and in fact initially we opted for a conservative approach. When it became clear that surgery was the way to go his explanation was clear and understandable. I was booked in without delay and the outcome was a complete success.. he has a warm personality and good sense of humour as well.’

Nothing But Admiration

‘As a healthcare professional myself I have worked with a range of medical providers. Unfortunately 12 months ago I had to have a c5/6 fusion. Mr Rogers was my surgeon. I have nothing but admiration for the work this man does. Bed side manner on point. I have great range of motion in my neck and all other symptoms have resolved. Only 5 days ago I managed to run 18km pain free.’

Dr. Edward Baddour makes a solid pick for paediatric and adult spinal conditions, with expertise in degenerative disorders and complex deformities.

One patient underwent spinal fusion under his care. He loved how he felt minimal discomfort post-op and how he was up and feeling better in about 6 weeks.

Moreover, Dr Baddour’s communication skills deserve a mention. Our interviewees praised him for being gentle and professional, emphasising reassurance over overwhelming information.

He also gets points for having a warm, attentive staff, with Su being the most raved about. Plus, the clinic is quite convenient since it’s a minute from Olive Street, where you can enjoy 2 hours of free parking.

However, he doesn’t offer teleconsultations. Self-funded patients won’t be able to access his services, too.

The upside is that he’s trained internationally, particularly in Wales.

Pros

  • Handles both paediatric and adult conditions
  • Convenient clinic
  • International training
  • Warm staff
  • Minimal post-op pain
  • Easy to reach

Cons

  • Weekend closure
  • Doesn’t accept self-funded patients
  • No teleconsultations

The Surgery Resulted in Instant Relief

‘After 11 weeks of severe nerve pain from a prolapsed disc, I was lucky enough to be referred to Dr Edward Baddour for a lumbar microdiscectomy. I can’t say how grateful I am to Dr Baddour for how quickly he organised surgery for me, only a week after consultation. The surgery resulted in instant relief. Dr Baddour how can I ever thank you enough for your professionalism, care and getting my life back on track and pain free. Thank you so much !’

Very Happy Patient Here

‘After 16 months of suffering I decided to have the fusion I needed. I woke from surgery without that pain & 6 wks on feeling a million dollars in comparison to pre surgery. Very happy patient here. 😊’

Graduating with honours in his MBBS, Dr. Gabriel Lee is a well-regarded neurosurgeon known for his work in complex spinal conditions.

One of his strongest areas is spinal reconstruction. Patients mention his precise diagnoses and surgical planning, often crediting him for improvements in their quality of life post-treatment.

What truly makes him special is that he doesn’t rush into surgery. Instead, he prioritises conservative treatments, such as physiotherapy or medication, ideal if you’d rather avoid unnecessary risks or costs.

When surgery is unavoidable, though, you’ll get the complete breakdown of the process. No sugarcoating.

Just note that his prices can be a sticking point, with a 15-minute consultation typically priced at $350. His practice is also limited to insured/adult patients.

That aside, his standing in the medical field is impressive. Dr. Lee served as a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia’s board for 5 years.

Pros

  • Graduated with honours
  • Expertise in spinal reconstruction
  • Doesn’t jump into surgery quickly
  • Straightforward communication
  • Trained internationally (Canada and US)
  • Served on the board of Neurosurgical
  • Society of Australasia
  • Polite

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Only services insured and adult patients

Skilled Surgeon

‘Dr Lee performed a L4 laminectomy on me back in 2016. He said he won’t do the surgery unless it’s necessary. I had a burst disc so it was necessary and didn’t heal in the 6-8 weeks they suggest. It was excruciating pain while waiting and because I have arthritis it was a long way back from the depths of depression but his skill as a surgeon is unquestionable. If you want some honest advice and then a skilled surgeon to look after you then Dr Lee is your man. Would recommend him to anyone.’

Darren Perera, Google Review

Great Aftercare

‘Great surgeon. Not quick to rush into surgery. Explains the procedure and risks associated. Great aftercare, coming to see me in hospital on Saturday and Sunday. Answered all my questions. Would recommend.
