If there were a list of ‘Most Laidback Beachfront Spots,’ City Beach would sit near the top. Between the Indian Ocean and a 500-metre stretch of powdery sand, it’s easy to see why the suburb pulls in lots of tourists and residents.
That beachy, casual energy runs deep. Summer-ready villas and townhouses line the streets, while seafood-heavy menus remind you of where you are—a suburb by the waves.

Where is City Beach?

City Beach is a suburb about 20 minutes to the west of Perth. Its northern section borders Scarborough, central section borders Floreat and Wembley Downs, and southern section borders Bold Park.
What is the main street in City Beach?
Unlike most of Perth’s suburbs, City Beach doesn’t have a traditional ‘main street.’ What it has, though, are two primary beaches where most tourists go to eat or relax, namely Floreat Beach and the namesake City Beach.
How to Get There

Can’t beat a day on Floreat Beach—that’s why we keep rocking up to this suburb. Rarely packed, it’s a sweet, sandy-white shoreline for the fam to unwind; you’ll get BBQs, a grassy lawn, and a playground, all for free.
Swimming zones here are patrolled, and when the weather plays fair, the water is calm and glassy. The swell can get up, though, which is good news for surfers but not too much for novice swimmers.

Bold Park is where we channel our inner Crocodile Dundee; banksia and tuart woodlands dominate the wilds here. They meet with some untamed heathlands home to over 86 bird and 28 reptile species, like rainbow bee-eaters and the rare turtle frog.
To scope them all out, we normally go for a wander through the numerous trails, totalling up to a whopping 15 km. One of our go-to paths is the Bold Park Bridle trail, a breezy 6.6-km, out-and-back trail you can take the pups and sprogs on.

If you need more proof that City Beach is easy on the eyes, walk up Reabold Hill Summit Lookout, an accessible viewing point that’s about 85 metres above sea level. The walk isn’t a leg-breaker if you start in Bold Park, taking 33 minutes and 61 metres of elevation.
At the top, it’s simply jaw-dropping, particularly on a good day. Metropolitan Perth, Kings Park, Botanic Garden, the Indian Ocean, and parts of the Swan River are all in one frame.
It’s dog-friendly, too!

Spikes, sand, seabreeze—yup, we experienced it all at City Beach Volleyball Court.
It’s a standard beach volleyball court, but the fine sand made games more enjoyable. Jumping and diving were easy since we didn’t have to land on coarse grains, and we didn’t have to mend bruises or scrapes post-spiking.
We had to book quickly, though. Spots go here fast.

Hugging the ocean, City Beach Oval nails the suburb’s spirit down to a tee. It’s meant for taking things slow, such as going on a lazy stroll, absorbing the sunset, flying kites, getting tanned, and resetting on a kayak.
You can get your heart rate up as well, thanks to the expansive field most locals use for hours of footy and cricket.
Once you’ve torched your fuel, you have two options: hit up the ‘burb’s nearby cafe strip, or grill something on the free BBQs.

Heading to the City Beach Oval’s hillside will get you to Beecroft Park, a shaded recreation site packed with running kids and pooches on a stroll.
Its biggest pull is the spruced-up playground with play elements for both the tiniest of tots and big kids. Some highlights include the twin racing slides, ideal for parent-child playtime, and the stepping logs, made for nature-based play.

Not everyone in our crew loves salty swims, and that’s where Bold Park Aquatic comes in clutch.
The grown-ups do laps in the 50-metre pool, which can be heated during nippier seasons. Meanwhile, the squad’s younger and more inexperienced bunch prefer the covered, 20-metre leisure pool, sensational for casual swim sessions.
To top it off, inflatables, like the 16.4-metre-long Dual Racer VII, add thrills to the spills!

Hip and sea-nic, Hamptons City Beach gave us a seafood feast with a front-row seat to the Indian Ocean.
We started with fish and chips, a full plate fit for sharing. The seasoning and meat were both tame, which was a hit among teammates who preferred lighter, naturally umami flavours.
The real catch of the day was the crispy skin barramundi. It was flaky and deep, with our team picking up zest, smokiness, and herbiness with every morsel.

Clancy’s Fish Bar is City Beach encapsulated—live tunes, seafood, beachfront panoramas, and a chilled-out mood.
Patrons swore by the seafood platter, so we gave it a shot. No regrets. The SA king prawns and chilli mussels were sharp without losing their legit oceanic sweetness.

Odyssea slots right into City Beach’s relaxed seaside joints, but this one keeps things fresh—literally.
Seasonal is the fare here. One month you’re getting sweetened Shark Bay scallops or pumpkin fritters, and the next, you’ll slice into lean and earthy seared kangaroo meat.
That said, some Aussie classics stay in the rotation. Think fish and chips and oysters, which come naturally or with a pink pepper kick.

Bistro and burger mains are right up our alley, so The Kiosk Floreat Beach was a lock.
Most of us went big for brunch, cleaning up plates of no-frills grilled chicken burgers and steak sanga jazzed with aioli and caramelised onions. Some took the lighter route by having chipotle-laced fish tacos and classic Caesar salad.

Breakfast, brunch, Sunday roast—the sun-kissed Voyage Kitchen has a plate for every occasion.
During the early hours, we get Korean fried chicken waffles—fiery KFC atop a waffle drenched in maple syrup and kimchi apple slaw. If we’re craving something healthier, berry and banana-centric acai bowls do the trick.

Georges City Beach hasn’t been around for 15 years by serving subpar cinnamon scrolls and burgers. If you ask us, though, no other option on this cafe’s menu tops the muffins, chiefly the blueberry and apple ones.
The bites oozed with homemade goodness—a mouthwateringly simple combo of warm spice, natural sweetness, and fruity tartness. The smooth latte matched them well.

Friends of ours rave about the gifts we hand out, and by the sea homewares is why.
This homey shop’s crafts are aesthetically-pleasing without skimping on functionality. Our repeat buys include stonewashed coaster sets, nesting bowls, linen laundry bags, and soft toys for the youngins.
It’s also a bonus that the affable staff are accommodating without being too pushy.

Most of City Beach’s fashionistas get threads from Chachi, and fair play to them. Even our not-so-fashionable members love this haunt’s modern and decently priced gear.
They have dresses, shoes, bling, denim, knitwear—honestly, whatever you need for any outing. Brand-wise, you’ll get Australian trendsetters, like jewellery savant, By Charlotte, and bag virtuosos, Brie Leon.
