If you’re looking for the greatest place to live in Perth, we think it’s best to start with the city’s centre – Perth City.
You might be thinking, ‘But isn’t the Central Business District (CBD) just a bunch of suits and skyscrapers?’ Well, we believe this place has a lot more going on than meets the eye.
For us, Perth is interesting enough for an overnight (or two or more) stay, from its busy streets to its beautiful river. So, make sure to put on comfortable shoes since you’ll likely be walking a lot – and you wouldn’t want to call a pain specialist later.
Still, many people like that it’s easy to walk around Perth City. You don’t need a car to get around here, unlike other places in the city.
Moreover, the free CAT buses make it even easier to get around, so you don’t have to work up a sweat to see the city.
Travel tip: Don’t like walking? We recommend riding a bike, boat, or Segway to explore the city and river.
Not only that, but Perth City is excellent for its active artistic scene. With edgy street art, lively laneways, art galleries, museums, and a melting pot of food, music, and culture, we feel you won’t run out of things to do.

You can rent a surf cat or stroll through the parklands. Otherwise, you can have a picnic or barbeque at one of the free facilities along the riverfront while taking in the stunning city and river.
The scenic river foreshore is home to concerts, local fairs, and markets as well ! And for us, it’s one of the best places to take in Perth’s gorgeous city skyline and sweeping Swan River views.
The City of South Perth Fiesta is a two-week long celebration that features live music, art, craft markets, food, and sporting events. It’s held annually (typically in March) and is a great option for families looking for something fun to do together.
But if you ever get sick of the company of humans, there’s another option. The Perth Zoo, located not far from the jetty and Mends Street, is home to more than 1,300 local and exotic animals.
The whole trip can make you hungry, but don’t fret! The neighbourhood is also known for its vibrant cafes and fine dining restaurants.

But this location isn’t just about food. In our opinion, there’s always something going on in Victoria Park.

Plus, Northbridge is easy to go to from Perth Underground Station. You won’t waste a lot of time commuting since it only takes 4 minutes to reach Northbridge via William Street.
