If you’re looking for the greatest place to live in Perth, we think it’s best to start with the city’s centre – Perth City.
You might be thinking, ‘But isn’t the Central Business District (CBD) just a bunch of suits and skyscrapers?’ Well, we believe this place has a lot more going on than meets the eye.
For us, Perth is interesting enough for an overnight (or two or more) stay, from its busy streets to its beautiful river. So, make sure to put on comfortable shoes since you’ll likely be walking a lot – and you wouldn’t want to call a pain specialist later.
Still, many people like that it’s easy to walk around Perth City. You don’t need a car to get around here, unlike other places in the city.
Moreover, the free CAT buses make it even easier to get around, so you don’t have to work up a sweat to see the city.
Travel tip: Don’t like walking? We recommend riding a bike, boat, or Segway to explore the city and river.
Not only that, but Perth City is excellent for its active artistic scene. With edgy street art, lively laneways, art galleries, museums, and a melting pot of food, music, and culture, we feel you won’t run out of things to do.
Moreover, foodies are likely to have a fantastic feast! Their bars serve everything from traditional food to more unique international cuisine.
You can order anything from steak and pasta to lamb and lobster. And in some places, people with exotic tastes can even order a kangaroo fillet!
But of course, no place is perfect. In peak seasons (December and January), it can be a tad loud and crowded, so you may want to visit any other time.
Plus, the cost of living here may be higher than in other cities. However, if you’ve already lived in Perth for a while, you probably earn enough on average to balance it out.
Overall, we think it’s worth going to Perth City because it’s a busy place with lots of culture. Who knows? This place could just become your new favourite.

Are you going with your loved ones? If so, we recommend South Perth, a neighbourhood filled with natural beauty, outdoor fun, and a laid-back, family-friendly vibe.
Conveniently, this place is also easily accessible by car or public transportation from Perth City via the Narrows Bridge.
While South Perth may not be as fancy as other Perth neighborhoods, we think it makes up for it in charm and personality. For one, it has lots of green space for relaxation.
You can rent a surf cat or stroll through the parklands. Otherwise, you can have a picnic or barbeque at one of the free facilities along the riverfront while taking in the stunning city and river.
The scenic river foreshore is home to concerts, local fairs, and markets as well ! And for us, it’s one of the best places to take in Perth’s gorgeous city skyline and sweeping Swan River views.
The City of South Perth Fiesta is a two-week long celebration that features live music, art, craft markets, food, and sporting events. It’s held annually (typically in March) and is a great option for families looking for something fun to do together.
But if you ever get sick of the company of humans, there’s another option. The Perth Zoo, located not far from the jetty and Mends Street, is home to more than 1,300 local and exotic animals.
The whole trip can make you hungry, but don’t fret! The neighbourhood is also known for its vibrant cafes and fine dining restaurants.
Travel tip: Make sure to stop by Mends Street to see lots of foodie spots!

Looking for a place with tonnes of charm? This next neighbourhood may just represent Perth’s eclectic vibe.
Victoria Park (Victoria Park things to do) is a place where creative energies come together. For us, it’s easy to see why young employees, foodies, and artists like this area.
First of all, we think the food scene in Victoria Park is great. There are gourmet burgers and veggie bars here, so we believe there’s something for every taste and special diet.
You may easily cook at home too! Friendly tip: Stroll around the Sunday markets and find a wide range of fresh food, handmade items, and tasty treats.
But this location isn’t just about food. In our opinion, there’s always something going on in Victoria Park.
For example, many can see a show at the local theatre, check out the latest art exhibit at a gallery, or see the latest rock band at a live music venue.
And if you like being outside, you’ll love the neighbourhood’s many parks and green areas. From the lush grass of Victoria Park to the beautiful paths along the Swan River, this part is full of places to enjoy nature.
Be ready to fall in love with its unique mix of city life and laid-back beauty!

Did you like playing games as a kid? If so, there are so many streets and alleys in Northbridge that we think you might feel like you’re in a real-life game of Waldo!
But seriously, we think there’s a lot to see in this neighbourhood. For one thing, Northbridge is close to Perth’s business district and offers a variety of artistic activities.
This neighbourhood is a vibrant cultural melting pot with a diverse range of restaurants and nightclubs. These places showcase art, fashion, and history from around the world!
Plus, Northbridge is easy to go to from Perth Underground Station. You won’t waste a lot of time commuting since it only takes 4 minutes to reach Northbridge via William Street.
And if you’re in the heart of Perth’s CBD, you can also take advantage of the free Blue CAT transport service.
If you want more adventurous tips, a day in the cultural precinct can easily be spent visiting museums, the State Library, and artisan markets – all of which are free of charge!
Northbridge is a convenient location from which to explore Perth’s many annual events too. Some of these are the Perth International Arts Festival, Carnival Latino, the Perth Food and Wine Festival, and the Pride Parade.
Apart from that, history buffs can discover some of Perth’s oldest buildings and learn more about the city’s history.
Also, we believe those in need of some shopping therapy can satisfy their cravings for one-of-a-kind, retro, and trendy clothing on William Street.
Then for lunch or dinner, you can choose from traditional and modern Australian food, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai. These can all be washed down with any drink you can think of, from coffee to alcohol.
Travel tip: To make the most of your trip, we suggest staying up a bit late to enjoy Northbridge’s nightlife!
Northbridge Piazza hosts regular shows, festivals, and other cultural events. Plus, the surrounding bar and club scene offers live music, comedy, and DJ sets.

If you want to see something cool, how about a cafe that serves coffee in a science beaker or a bar that’s also a vintage clothing shop?
Well, you’re in luck because you can find those things at Leederville!
Leederville is a melting pot of cheap eats, cafes, fine dining establishments, and delicatessens. It also has a lively bar and club scene and a string of hip fashion boutiques.
Travel tip: Planning to go on a romantic date? We recommend seeing a movie at the Luna Cinema!
This cinema has a 1920s theatre and outdoor picture gardens that we believe will make your visit memorable.
You can also look around at the street art – Leederville has some incredible murals and sculptures. We dare you to spot as many as you can around the neighbourhood!
Those who want some peace of mind may just sip coffee at a table on the street. There, you can read a novel while sampling international cuisine.
And if you go to Newcastle Street on a Sunday morning, you can also visit the Leederville Farmers Market. While you’re there, try to buy some of the best fresh local food and gourmet artisan goods – we think these make fine souvenirs!
Another tip: Make sure to take extra cash with you in case the next ATM is far away. Furthermore, it might be good to bring your own eco bag for a planet-friendly shopping experience.

Do you want to have a super-tasty meat pie or sunbathe with a kangaroo? Then, put on some sunscreen and a hat, and visit Mount Lawley for a day filled with adventure!
We think you’ll enjoy this neighbourhood’s long stretch of award-winning restaurants, hip bars, and laid-back coffee shops.
For us, this suburb can best be experienced by strolling down Beaufort Street in its entirety. There are large name stores and boutiques where you can buy anything from clothing and home goods to music, books, and collectibles.
In this location, you can also experience the village atmosphere. It has a full calendar of festivals, concerts, and other events – the more friends you’re with, the merrier!
Along with a number of upscale delicatessens, there’s a vast array of dining options to suit any taste or budget too.
Travel tip: While you’re in Mount Lawley, we recommend trying out the fish and chips, crayfish, and other fresh seafood in the area!
At night, Mount Lawley becomes even more lively too. There are numerous bars in the area, ranging from relaxed pubs to energetic clubs to chic late-night bars.
You and your pals can hop from one bar to another and paint the town red!
Of course, it’s good to consider staying in Mount Lawley for more than a day to experience it all. There are many motels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals available here too!
And there you go! We hope you find the best activities to explore when you’re in the top neighborhoods in Perth. May you have an unforgettable trip!
